$6bn for a database

I've been writing about Groupon for over a year and pointing out the simple genius of this idea and how effective it was for small to medium sized businesses, so when it came out yesterday that Google were in discussions to buy it for over $6bn, it came as no surprise. But what are they buying? I guess in the end it's two databases - one of consumers' emails who have registered for offers and what they have bought and on the other side a database of businesses who have made offers. if you want read more about the deal and the wunderkind who started it, this Forbes article tells all.
