Facebook Sponsored Stories upset grows

So when you Like a brand page on Facebook, how do you feel about that company being able to use your name and photo in their paid for advertising saying that you Like them? Well it's happening and it will either feature where Facebook ads normally go on your friends' pages, or be displayed higher up more prominently in their newsfeed. It's what Facebook call Sponsored Stories, you can't opt out and you probably won't even know it has happened. In the recent BBC documentary, Inside Facebook, reporter Emily Maitliss challenges Facebook VP of communications Elliot Schrage saying that just because she likes a brand doesn't mean that she's prepared to advertise it - he is left speechless and flummoxed - watch it below. I don't think the word has really got out about Sponsored Stories yet but I think a lot of people will object when they realise what's happening.
It's all part of Facebook seeking to come up with more effective ways for brands to advertise and weave social and advertising together in a more seamless fashion. There is much scepticism about Facebook advertising and last week GM pulled their Facebook advertising budget but not of course their brand pages.
